Diabetes should not be a drag on travel, because it must not be a brake on life. It is therefore important to continue to live and travel as usual.
If you have diabetes, it is imperative to make an appointment with your doctor treating your diabetes to make a point, before considering a trip. Depending on the stabilization of your diabetes, you must see with it if the chosen destination is realistic.
Check for any vaccines to be made or updated. In the same way, make a point on the treatments to be taken upstream. Know that in case of diabetes, neither the vaccines are contraindicated, nor the antimalarial treatments.
If you are going to a European country, consider taking a European card with your health insurance fund to cover your social security.
Also consider taking a special repatriation insurance.

The choice of the destination
Whatever country you choose for your trip, make sure the health facilities are able to accommodate people with diabetes. If your choice is for developing countries, check to see if there is at least one hospital or clinic near your resort. If you want to go on an adventure, try it framed and supported by a tour operator.
If you have chosen a destination with a warm climate, wear a hat and remember to hydrate very often, especially if your diabetes is not well balanced.
Do not hesitate to ask for information from people who suffer from the same disease as yours.
