Anal incontinence: a symptom that remains taboo

In France, anal incontinence is not really considered a handicap by our health authorities. Yet, it is one!

Thousands of people in our country are experiencing the problem, or even the nightmare, of an inconvenience that they dare not speak to, not even to their doctor. Too much shame.

In fact, an estimated one million people are affected by fecal incontinence: 350, 000 severely.

In other words, it is a real public health problem that it is time to dare to tackle. Especially as effective responses and treatments exist.

Fecal incontinence is a common disorder and it would be wrong to believe that it is a pathology of the elderly person. Everyone is concerned, men, women, young people and older people.

It is estimated that 11% of the French adult population suffers from anal incontinence (involuntary loss of gas or stool), of which 2% suffer from faecal incontinence (involuntary loss of gas and stool).

A pathology that affects women more frequently: 13% women and 9% men. A difference that can be explained by deliveries and menopause that would be contributing factors.

The specialist doctor to treat this problem is a gastroenterologist.
