Fitness after pregnancy: perineal rehabilitation

During childbirth and pregnancy, the perineum is put to the test. It is therefore necessary to rehabilitate this ligamentous and muscular structure which ensures the maintenance of the organs of the small pelvis and its "locking" by contraction of the muscles in case of abdominal pressure (cough, sneezing, exertion).

This perineal reeducation is strongly recommended for all women who have given birth vaginally, if only to find a satisfactory sex life.

The perineal reeducation sessions are prescribed by the doctor during the postnatal visit and reimbursed at 100%. They take place at the physiotherapist, 6 to 8 weeks after delivery, later in case of breastfeeding.

Perineal rehabilitation consists of remusulating the pelvic floor and making the automatic contraction reflexes functional again. It helps prevent problems with urinary incontinence and genital prolapse, colloquially known as "descent".

Once the perineum has regained its tone, you can consider taking care of your abdominal muscles.

Physical activity

Depending on the women and their physical condition, the body is recovering more or less quickly from a pregnancy, but as a general rule, it is necessary to wait at least two months and the end of the perineal reeducation, before the resumption of an activity. sporty (light at first). In case of cesarean section or episiotomy, you will have to wait a little longer. In any case, ask the gynecologist for the green light.

As during pregnancy, walking is highly recommended; it's also an opportunity to get the baby to get fresh air. For the resumption of physical activity, choose a quiet sport (indoor gymnastics, swimming), and start slowly. "Violent" activities - those that require running, jumping - are obviously to be avoided.

You can also do some simple movements at home. These exercises will help you tone weakened muscles during pregnancy and lose weight in a harmonious and lasting way.

Finally, you may want everything perfect for your baby; however, be sure to give yourself time to breathe. Enjoy the sleep of your baby to take a nap, accept the help of those around you who will be delighted to have a baby. A fit mom is essential for the baby.
